Description

There are numerous career opportunities in Transportation ranging from those that plan and design transportation systems and vehicles….to those that build the infrastructure and manufacture vehicles, to those that keep the system and vehicles in good working order.  Careers in transportation provide good pay and advancement opportunities, are here to stay, and are becoming more “high-tech” as transportation systems and vehicles become “smarter and smarter”.  These careers also provide an rewarding opportunity to be part of building your community’s future.

    04 Using GIS Software to Design Transportation Infrastructure

    • Introduction to GIS
    • Designing an LA Monorail System
      • Activity can be used as-is or modified specifically for electric vehicle infrastructure, i.e, either monorail, electric vehicle charging and infrastructure, or both.
      • Explore the use of Geographic Information System software to plan an ideal transit system, place vehicle charging stations, etc. with environmental justice and equity in mind

    05 Sustainable Transportation Systems

    Research Project / Presentation: Compare and contrast the current sustainable technologies in terms of cost and carbon footprint. Explore the break-even point of each. Students will form groups to research one of the topics below, and prepare a presentation for the class on that topic areas. The instructor will provide an overview of any topics not assigned to student groups.
